Premier contact pour un partenariat FID (Paris) et Espaços do Desenho – Drawing Spaces (Lisbonne)

Très ponctuelle, Teresa Carneiro est arrivée pour une heure d’agréable conversation collégiale, profitant de sa présence à Paris. Au lieu de quoi, crayons en main, bloc notes sur le bureau, nous avons travaillé trois heures non stop. Avons parlé de la revue Roven, la belle aventure de Johana Carrier et Marine Pagès… avons échangé nos expériences. Leur site - qui figure depuis deux ans dans nos liens - est remarquable, très professionnel. Espaços do Desenho – Drawing Spaces et le FID / Cercle D sont des structures qui ont bien des points communs dans leur système de fonctionnement. Faire beaucoup avec peu, par passion, à contre-courant… Le dessin contemporain nous unit. Je ne peux dire ce qui sortira de ce premier contact. Mais je sais que, dans la vie professionnelle, il y a des rencontres qu’il faut cultiver, développer. Et je crois savoir que de cette rencontre chaleureuse sortira un beau projet !

The International Drawing Art Fair has been a huge reference for its commitment to contemporary drawing, its international projection, and most of all for its efforts to become physically and also conceptually central to the drawing community.
Adding to this, the fact that this year it became the first Art Fair destined to promote works on drawing produced by students coming from various European Art School, makes its role even more unique and original to the discipline.

Towards the end of our conversation the pertinence of initiating a partnership made more and more sense. Serghei suggested that the entries to the Contemporary Drawing Fair should be extend to other European countries, as they already started doing this year, and that myself and Drawing Spaces could contribute by coordinating the presence of Portuguese and Spanish Art Schools at the Fair. I was most honored by the invitation, but also felt it made a lot of sense to accept this partnership as it would help to expand several of Drawing Spaces missions which regarded, for example, work with international partners to collaborate and help fulfill similar missions related to contemporary drawing; find space to promote works on drawing by final year art students, giving them access to the possibility of internationalization and to the art market, promote the well established along with the emergent…
